Monaco Alerts Residents to Fraudulent QR Codes on Parking Meters

The Municipality of Monaco has alerted the public to a scam involving 40 of its 86 surface parking meters. Scammers affixed counterfeit QR code stickers to these meters, which, when scanned, redirected users to harmful websites designed to illicit payments. This deceit mirrors similar scams reported internationally.

Following the discovery, municipal workers promptly inspected and cleared all affected parking meters across Monaco, confirming the removal of all fraudulent stickers. The Municipality reaffirms that legitimate parking payments can only be made through the PayByPhone or Monapass apps, as well as via cash, credit card, or contactless methods, underscoring that none of the parking meters are equipped with QR code technology.

Monaco’s Municipality urges individuals who suspect they might have been duped by this scheme to report to the Public Safety Directorate immediately. The Municipality will also be lodging a formal complaint in response to these deceptive activities, reinforcing its commitment to public safety and the integrity of its parking system.
