Monaco's commitment to global health issues was prominently showcased during the 74th session of the World Health Organization’s Regional Committee for Europe, which convened in Copenhagen from October 29 to 31, 2024. The delegation, led by Christophe Robino, Minister of Social Affairs and Health, joined counterparts from 53 member states to deliberate on the pressing health challenges facing Europe and beyond. Minister Robino highlighted the Principality's dedication to WHO’s objectives, particularly emphasizing the necessity of joint action to tackle health emergencies exacerbated by armed conflicts, notably in Ukraine and the Middle East.
During the sessions, Minister Robino condemned the attacks on healthcare facilities and stressed the resurgence of diseases such as polio in conflict zones like Gaza, underlining the urgent need for widespread vaccine access. Monaco’s stance on upholding international humanitarian law was strongly reiterated, aligning with its long-standing commitment to global health and safety.
The conference also saw the re-election of Dr. Hans Kluge as WHO Europe’s Regional Director for another term, spanning from 2025 to 2030. Dr. Kluge’s reappointment was met with unanimous approval, signaling continued support for his vision in strengthening WHO Europe’s operational and political framework. Moreover, the event enabled Monaco’s representatives to foster discussions with international partners, exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation in health policy and public health service improvements, pivotal for Monaco’s ongoing health strategy.
