Mild Earthquake Strikes Near Monaco, Felt Across the Côte d'Azur

Late Monday evening, residents of Monaco and the surrounding Côte d’Azur felt the ground shake during a mild earthquake that struck at 22:22. The epicenter of the earthquake was situated off the Mediterranean coast near Monaco, registering a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale, as reported by the Seismological Bureau. The tremors were distinctly felt across several cities including Nice, Menton, and as far as Antibes, although no structural damages have been reported in the wake of the event.

The recent seismic activity has reignited concerns about the area’s susceptibility to earthquakes. This incident follows closely on the heels of another earthquake, just days prior, which had a magnitude of 4.3 with an epicenter in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. These consecutive tremors are a stark reminder of the ongoing geological instability that characterizes the region.

Seismological experts continue to caution that a significant earthquake, potentially triggering a tsunami, is inevitable for the Côte d’Azur. However, pinpointing the exact timing of such a major seismic event remains a challenge. The community is urged to stay informed and prepared as the region navigates its vulnerability to natural disturbances.
