Mayor Georges Marsan Demands Speedy Resolution in Judicial Inquiry

At an annual press briefing held at the Monaco Town Hall, Mayor Georges Marsan addressed the media with an unusual level of candor regarding his ongoing legal troubles, stemming from accusations of influence peddling and corruption since 2024. Highlighting his frustrations with the slow pace of the judicial proceedings, Marsan, who has been a prominent figure in Monegasque politics since his election in 2003, emphasized his eagerness for a resolution. He expressed concerns about the impact of these delays on his ability to effectively govern and uphold the integrity of his office.

During his address, Marsan stressed the importance of transparency and rapid legal processes, stating, "I don’t agree with the delays, I think it’s completely abnormal." His remarks resonate within the context of Monaco's typically reserved political environment, marking a significant moment of public forthrightness by a leading political figure. Marsan's insistence on facing the investigation’s outcomes decisively reflects his commitment to maintaining public trust during this challenging period.

Furthermore, Marsan reiterated his desire for a prompt conclusion to the investigation, which was initially expected to be completed by December but now faces further postponements. Voicing the strain of the situation, he remarked, "We are not ‘just anybody’, we are an institution. If we are accused of something, let the judges say so. I don’t want to wait 15 years for an investigation." These comments underscore his frustration with what he perceives as excessive delays that could undermine the responsibilities and function of his office. The progression of this case remains a focal point of interest and concern within the Principality.
