Malizia, the regal bald eagle and official mascot of the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment of Montauban, recently returned to Monaco, reinforcing the deep-seated ties between the military unit and the Principality. The eagle, a gift from Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover and godmother to the regiment, embodies the dual expertise of the regiment in both airborne operations and explosive ordnance disposal. This expertise is mirrored in Malizia’s ability to soar and face the sun directly, reflecting the regiment’s motto of being masters of fire and air.
During this visit, Malizia’s first to Monaco since participating in the National Day celebrations in 2017, the eagle was hosted at the Jardin Animalier. This visit coincided with the zoo’s 70th anniversary celebrations and featured a symbolic meeting between Malizia and Misa, another white-tailed eagle, symbolizing a bridge between conservation efforts and military tradition. The occasion highlighted both entities' ongoing commitment to wildlife preservation, including the recent release and monitoring of a young female white-tailed eagle equipped with a tracking beacon to ensure her successful adaptation to the wild.
The enduring connection between Monaco’s Princely Family and the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment continues to strengthen, with Malizia serving as a poignant emblem of shared values such as discipline, commitment, and heritage. This visit not only reaffirms the regiment’s traditions but also underscores Monaco’s ongoing dedication to conservation and the deep-rooted relationship that supports these joint endeavors.
