JS Bach's Christmas Oratorio Debuts at Salle Garnier with Royal Attendance

The prestigious Salle Garnier in Monaco recently hosted a mesmerizing performance of JS Bach’s Christmas Oratorio for the first time, attended by notable dignitaries including His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and Her Royal Highness Princess of Hanover. The event, highlighting the first three parts of this seminal work which was originally performed in 1734, captivated the audience with its portrayal of the early days following Christ’s birth.

Under the baton of Gianluca Capuano, the Prince’s Musicians of Monaco, along with a specialized choir and renowned soloists such as tenor Daniel Behle, soprano Ulrike Malotta, countertenor Carlo Vistoli, and mezzo-soprano Anna Stéphany, delivered a sublime rendition of the oratorio. This performance marked a significant departure from the ensemble's typical repertoire, introducing them and the audience to the profound spirituality of Bach’s composition.

The successful introduction of Bach's Christmas Oratorio at the Salle Garnier has not only enriched the local cultural scene but also set the stage for future Baroque performances. The evening affirmed the timeless appeal of Bach's music, leaving both performers and attendees eager for more explorations into Baroque’s rich musical heritage.
