The Yacht Club de Monaco recently concluded the 2024 Optimist European Team Racing Championship, a notable event in the junior sailing calendar, under the auspices of the International Optimist Dinghy Association and World Sailing. Italy triumphed after four days of intense competition against 16 other European teams, underscoring their strategic prowess and team cohesion. The event was supported by prominent sponsors including FxPro, Monaco Marine, and Slam, enhancing the championship's stature.
Bernard d'Alessandri, General Secretary of the Yacht Club de Monaco, praised the event, highlighting its embodiment of the club's core values of team spirit and solidarity, exemplified by the Italian team's performance. Italy's victory was particularly dramatic as they overturned a strong challenge from Turkey in the finals. Turkey had shown formidable form throughout the event but fell short in a nail-biting final, securing Italy their third consecutive European title and their sixth overall.
The competition also spotlighted local talent, with Monaco's team finishing commendably in fourth place in the Silver Round. The team, comprising sailors Océane Schroeder, Ludovica Bonelli, Facundo Rubinelli, and Pietro Carlevaris, displayed promising skills that bode well for the future of Monegasque sailing. Looking ahead, the Yacht Club de Monaco is set to host further prestigious events, including the Grimaldi Trophy and the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, maintaining its role as a central hub for elite sailing competitions.
