Monaco's inaugural Trail du Mont Agel, a challenging mountain race, commenced under clear skies with 500 participants starting from the Principality's core. The trail, stretching through Beausoleil and La Turbie, culminated at the 1,100-meter peak of Mont Agel. In the men's category, Sébastien Poésy triumphed, setting a formidable record of 2 hours and 26 minutes, while Chloé François led the women's division, clinching victory in 2 hours and 50 minutes. The event, marked by its scenic yet rigorous route, hints at becoming a permanent fixture in the region's athletic offerings.
Simultaneously, the City Trail unfolded, offering runners a picturesque course through Monaco's iconic spots, including the Oceanographic Museum and the new Mareterra district. Adrien Janin and Liv Westphal emerged victorious in their respective divisions, with Westphal continuing her dominance on Monaco's streets, having previously set a national record here. The City Trail, like its mountainous counterpart, provided a unique blend of cultural landmarks and athletic challenge.
The weekend was further enriched by youth competitions on Quai Albert 1er, where future sports stars raced 1,000 meters, encouraged by crowds and Olympic champion Cassandre Beaugrand. The combined events of the Trail du Mont Agel and City Trail not only showcased Monaco's natural and urban beauty but also reinforced its status as a burgeoning hub for world-class sporting events, promising even more memorable moments in future editions.
