In a tribute to one of Monaco's most celebrated artists, the Salle d’Exposition du Quai Antoine Ier is set to host "Hubert Clerissi – Espaces ciselés," a comprehensive retrospective opening on Thursday, February 20. This exhibition, backed by the Mairie de Monaco in partnership with the Direction des Affaires Culturelles and the Pavillon Bosio – École Supérieure d’Arts Plastiques, offers an intimate look at Hubert Clerissi's influential body of work. Known for his disciplined yet emotionally resonant style, Clerissi's creations have significantly shaped Monaco's artistic milieu.
The exhibition's curation by Leah Friedman, with artistic direction from Nadia Omiecinski, Clerissi’s daughter, introduces a novel scenographic approach by Maria Magdalena David and Illona Rougemond-Mosconi of the Pavillon Bosio's post-Master program, Décors. This setting aims to provide a new perspective on Clerissi’s artworks, enhancing the dynamic between structural precision and emotional depth. His evolution from architectural precision to expressive freedom is evident in his varied works, from rigorous cityscapes to fragile watercolours, which reflect a constant play between control and spontaneity.
Open daily from 11:00 to 18:00 until Wednesday, March 12, and free to the public, "Hubert Clerissi – Espaces ciselés" not only highlights Clerissi’s artistic journey but also engages the community through a series of workshops exploring his techniques and philosophy. This exhibition is an essential experience for those interested in the enduring impact and unique vision of Monaco’s own Hubert Clerissi, offering a deep dive into the artist’s quest for transcendence and freedom in his work.
