French Navy's Luberon Tugboat Makes First Visit to Monaco, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The French Navy's coastal harbour tug, Luberon, made a notable stopover at Port Hercules in Monaco from December 9 to December 12. This marked the first visit of the 36-meter-long vessel to the Principality, underscoring the deep-rooted maritime cooperation and strong bilateral ties between France and Monaco. The Luberon, which typically assists the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle with port maneuvers in Toulon, showcased its capabilities and fostered mutual respect through its presence in Monaco.

During the stay, the Luberon’s 11-member crew had the opportunity to engage with local authorities and the French Ambassador in Monaco. Although the visit was not part of an official mission, such interactions are seen as vital for building camaraderie and reinforcing the operational cohesion among naval personnel. The crew appreciated the warm reception and the chance to strengthen connections with Monaco’s leadership, reflecting the ongoing friendship and collaboration between the two nations.

This visit is the second such instance this year where a French naval vessel has anchored in Monaco, highlighting the consistent and friendly relations between the two countries. Following its productive engagement in Monaco, the Luberon returned to its base in Toulon on December 12. The visit was not only a gesture of goodwill but also a reinforcement of the strategic maritime linkages that continue to thrive between France and Monaco.
