Endurance swimmer Noam Yaron is gearing up for a challenging 180km swim from Calvi to Monaco, scheduled for June 2025, coinciding with the United Nations Ocean Conference in nearby Nice. This second attempt comes after his initial effort was halted 103km in due to severe weather. Yaron's venture aims to draw urgent attention to the need for more robust marine protection measures, particularly highlighting the threats posed by industrial fishing, marine traffic, and climate change affecting the Mediterranean's delicate ecosystem, including the Pelagos Sanctuary.
Having learned from his previous experience, Yaron is implementing several technical enhancements to better equip himself for the demanding swim. These adjustments include modifications to his wetsuit to enhance comfort and endurance for an expected five-day continuous swim, as well as improvements to his support vessel's setup. Additionally, Yaron is intensifying his mental and physical training regimen, incorporating high-intensity swimming drills and hypnosis techniques to help manage exhaustion and potential hallucinations during the long hours in the water.
Yaron's ambition extends beyond setting a new world record; he is committed to advocating for significant legislative reforms. His advocacy focuses on enforcing stricter regulations against destructive fishing practices and establishing maritime speed limits to safeguard marine life from fatal accidents. Slated to commence his swim on June 14, immediately after the UN Ocean Conference, Yaron aims to complete his journey while catalyzing impactful conservation actions to protect our oceans.
