At a prestigious ceremony held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Thursday, August 29, Cristiano Ronaldo was honored with a special award by UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin during the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League draw. The accolade was in recognition of Ronaldo's unparalleled achievements in the Champions League, marking an illustrious career that spans over 18 years. Ronaldo, who has scored a record 140 goals in 183 appearances, surpasses his closest rival, Lionel Messi, by 11 goals and is well ahead of Robert Lewandowski.
Aleksander Čeferin praised Ronaldo at the event, noting, "Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the brightest stars in the UEFA Champions League constellation. His extraordinary goalscoring performances in the competition will forever be remembered and will be a great challenge for future generations to follow." Ronaldo's Champions League journey is highlighted by finishing as the top scorer in seven different seasons, the most by any player, and includes memorable performances such as his 17 goals in the 2013/14 season.
Ronaldo's record extends beyond the Champions League; he is the all-time leading scorer in UEFA club competitions with 145 goals and holds a record 130 international goals. His five Champions League titles, numerous Ballon d’Or, and UEFA Men’s Player of the Year awards underscore his enduring influence and stature in world football.
