Beausoleil Slip Road Eases Monaco Traffic, Improves A500 Flow After One Year

One year after its inauguration, the Beausoleil motorway slip road has substantially alleviated traffic congestion for motorists traveling to Monaco, with nearly 3,000 vehicles utilizing the new route daily. This development has notably improved traffic flow on the A500 motorway and eased the burden on La Turbie, which previously faced considerable traffic during peak hours. According to Monaco Info, the slip road has successfully diverted traffic, reducing the frequency of closures of the A500 tunnel by 70 percent and also shortening their duration, thus enhancing access to the Principality.

The opening of this motorway access in January 2024 has brought significant relief to the village of La Turbie, traditionally a critical juncture for commuters. The redirection of a substantial portion of vehicular traffic has returned a sense of calm to the area, markedly lowering traffic noise and increasing safety for local schoolchildren. Residents and local officials have noted these positive changes, which have improved the quality of daily life in the community.

Moreover, the design of the slip road reflects a blend of functionality, environmental consideration, and aesthetic appeal. Vinci, the project's lead developer, collaborated with landscape architects and the French historic buildings authority to ensure the infrastructure harmoniously integrates with the nearby historic Trophy of Augustus and the scenic landscape. This careful planning included the incorporation of architectural elements into the retaining walls and the planting of 700 flora species, successfully marrying modern infrastructure needs with environmental and historical preservation.
