A Beausoleil resident, aged 37, has been sentenced to nine months in prison after engaging in a series of dangerous activities in Monaco, culminating in an altercation where he bit a police officer. The incident unfolded when the individual, significantly over the legal alcohol limit, navigated his scooter erroneously down a one-way street in the vicinity of a school on Avenue de Roqueville, without wearing a helmet and displaying aggressive behavior towards the police.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the man had a high blood alcohol concentration of 0.84 mg/l and exhibited reckless behavior that endangered nearby pedestrians, including school children. In his defense, the accused claimed his erratic actions were due to an attempt to leave Monaco after consuming vodka the night before. Despite his denial of verbally assaulting police officers, he acknowledged his impaired condition at the time of the incident.
The prosecution highlighted the defendant's lengthy criminal history, encompassing 25 previous offenses, and advocated for a stringent sentence to curtail further misconduct. Consequently, the court not only imposed a nine-month prison term but also issued a five-year driving prohibition in Monaco and mandated compensation payments to the aggrieved police officers, significantly exceeding the prosecution’s initial sentencing suggestion.
